Christian Witness Library ("we", "us") is a small, independently-run resource for finding devotions, illustrations, biographies, and Bible-topic material, available here on the web and as a companion Android app. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. It covers this website (search, the Contact form below, and the beta-testing Feedback form) as well as the Android app.
What we collect
- Search queries. When you search, we log the text of the query and a timestamp - nothing else. No IP address, device ID, account, or any other identifier is attached to it. This is purely so we can see what real people actually search for, to improve results over time.
- Feedback you choose to submit. The Feedback form asks for an optional name and a handful of ratings/short answers about your experience. Unlike search queries, this is not anonymous if you choose to include your name - we store whatever you type, exactly as you typed it, so we can read and act on it.
- Contact form messages. The Contact form (also below, on this page and the About page) asks for an optional name, your email address, and a message. This isn't anonymous - we store what you type, and use your email address only to reply to you and to notify ourselves that a message has come in.
- Bookmarks (Android app only). Saved bookmarks in the Android app live only on your own device (local device storage). We never see or receive your bookmark list - it is never sent to our servers. The web version doesn't currently have a bookmarking feature.
What we don't collect
- No user accounts, sign-in, or password to use the site or app. (If you choose to use the Contact form, we'll have whatever email address you gave us there - see above.)
- No advertising or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs of any kind.
- No access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or precise location.
- No data is sold, rented, or shared with advertisers.
Where it's stored
Search-query logs, feedback submissions, and Contact form messages are stored on our own server (hosted on Render) and mirrored to a private database (Supabase/Postgres) that only we can access. When you submit the Contact form, we also use Resend, an email-delivery service, to send ourselves a notification email containing your message - Resend doesn't use that data for anything beyond delivering that one email. None of these services are used for advertising, and none share this data onward with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep search-query logs, feedback, and Contact form messages for as long as the site and app are in active development and beta testing, so we can look back at real usage patterns and real feedback while improving them. If you'd like a feedback or Contact form submission (including your name, if you gave one) removed, let us know using the Contact form below and we'll delete it.
Children's privacy
Christian Witness Library is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle data changes, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
